Run Britain Day 85: Lancaster to Silverdale
A surprisingly beautiful morning running out of Lancaster, down the river, past the latest nuclear facility and along the promenade at Morecombe.
Just like Blackpool a few days ago, Morecombe is a relic of a time before air travel. Its beach is beautiful (although with its enormous tide, it’s not great for swimming in) and its promenade is shiny and new and well maintained. But between its nice cafes are obvious signs of deprivation.
It really could be a beautiful spot, but it needs a bit of tlc.
Beyond Morecombe is very suddenly countryside again. Silverdale looks over Morecombe Bay and the Lake District national park is just a few hills away. It’s a very suddenly countryside again change from the very urban week just gone and it’s very welcome.
