Run Britain Day 61: From Ferryside to St Clears
I knew today was going to be a bad one. The weather forecast was truly terrible and the coast path here isn’t really a coast path because of the massive river estuary.
But bad turned out to be an understatement. I couldn’t run on the slippery, muddy paths. And the roads with their terrible visibility were too dangerous.
After about two hours, I sought temporary cover in the foyer of a church (the only shelter around) and made a plan to push on for another couple of hours, but cut off a very big corner.
I have never been so wet and muddy. And when I was rescued from St Clears and taken back to the lovely family in Carmarthen who looked after me for a couple of days, I was absolutely freezing.
The Elias family have given me a great taste of Welsh friendliness. Neither of us could fully work out what our connection is. But between Lottie and their daughter Naomi (who also don’t know each other), we’ve been put in touch and I’ve had two days of great feeding, lovely evenings and good sleeping in the comfiest bed I have ever slept in.
