Run Britain Days 129 to 132: The Kyle of Lochalsh to Kinlochewe
The rest of Britain has basked in an early spring this week, but north west Scotland is still in the depths of winter.
On Monday, I ran from the Kyle of Lochalsh through the rain to Lochcarron. Which is a nice little village with its own golf course.
On Tuesday, I ran over the Bealach na Ba road which rises to 2500ft. It was quite a nice day at the bottom, but the top was in a cloud. It was also incredibly windy. The descent was a wild ride, which tore up my quads.
On Wednesday, I ran a similar elevation up and down around the Applecross peninsula. ‘One of the most stunning views’ in Britain, I was told. It rained all day.
And on Thursday, the wind and the rain joined forces to create mad running conditions on the road to Kinlochewe.
But everything was fine because we got to stay at Heather’s Dad’s beautiful home on the banks of Loch Kishorn. I spent four days having a bath, washing all my sodden clothes and spending each evening in front of the fire.
I’m enjoying van life, but a break in such a lovely place was really wonderful. Although I am a bit concerned that my body has enjoyed the break too much. I have slept for more than 10 hours each night, and each morning feels like a real effort to get moving again. I am looking forward to getting back into the routine of a van, but I will miss the comfort of an amazing home.
