Run Britain Day 89: From Barrow to Millom

This morning I was joined on the road out of Barrow by Jade. She arrived with full rucksack on front and back and when we set off up the hill, she was quickly slowed to walking pace.

I’m fine with running slowly (I’d rather run slowly with company, than less slowly on my own). We soon left the road and headed down towards yet another estuary, where the path quickly became muddy. Very muddy. Jade slipped down and ditch and found herself unable to get out.

Now if it was a friend in this predicament I would have been hysterical, but I had only known Jade for about 15 minutes and laughing at her plight as her legs span beneath her felt unkind. I couldn’t contain myself though when she suggested that I go on without her and she call the Cumbria police to haul her out of the mud.

15 minutes later, she did emerge and by that point I had calmed down enough to head on our way.

The path did become less muddy, but not that much less muddy. And it was not an easy route to follow. And later in the morning we had to stand a sheep up that had become stuck on its side.

I think Jade was a bit traumatised by her contribution to Run Britain by the time she got on the train. And I decided I was probably safer sticking on the road in the afternoon.
