Run Britain Day 82: Southport towards Preston

The English coast path comes to an abrupt and very weird stop halfway up the River Ribble, heading towards Preston. I made it a sizeable chunk of the way up the river before sticking with my winter resolution not to run all the way around the estuaries if it can be avoided. The River Ribble is not an inspiring one and today’s run was bleak. But it was finished in good time, which is always a relief.

The afternoon’s entertainment came in the form of a slight altercation with the manager of the property we were staying in.

People often ask me if I have changed since I started running Britain. The answer is definitely yes and it’s most notable in times of slight stress (like when issues are raised with the property we were staying in). Being stressed is not something that is possible when running around Britain. If I was not able to go with the flow and roll with the punches, I would have given up a long time ago.

I am not a laid back person. But my attitude to running Britain is incredibly relaxed. I definitely get frustrated and very grumpy, especially when I am tired. But arguments, drama and anger are just not worth it. So many things have gone wrong on this trip, but I haven’t let a single one of the affect me (well, not for very long).

I really hope this new found calmness is something I carry forward in my life.

(Also, there as nothing worth taking a photo of today - this was the best I could find).
