Run Britain Day 48: From Clovelly to Chivenor

This was a day of two halves.

The first spent slipping and stumbling through a muddy forest in the North Devon Coast National Landscape area. I can’t say this has been my favourite bit of coastline, I couldn’t even see the sea. I did get to be the first person on a new step somewhere around Bucks Mill (that’s what the landscapers working in the rain told me). But other than that, it was quite a miserable morning and it took over five hours to complete just 24km.

And then I emerged onto the tarmac at Westward Ho! - the only place in the UK with punctuation in its name, which makes it quite hard to work into sentences. Should there be a question mark at the end of this sentence after Westward Ho!?

It’s not a beautiful part of the coastline, but it’s flat and it’s paved. So after I crossed the river from Appledore to Instow, I was able to stride out properly for the first time in weeks. It was only lack of daylight that stopped me from running all the way to the next hill.
