Run Britain Day 42: From Lands End to Carbis Bay

The Cornish trail running community had warned me about the section of the coast path between Lands End and St Ives. It’s a particularly rugged, remote section with rocks, mud and waterfalls galore.

It’s been especially churned up recently because it was used in a recent trail event and I was apprehensive as I approached Lands End, despite the rest day yesterday.

I was right to be wary. This section is not easy. It is ankle breaking territory and requires ridiculous concentration. But when I remembered to look up from the trails, the views are absolutely sensational.

I was joined for two stints by amazing runners training for the Arc of Attrition, which covers the 100mile stretch of coast between Coverack and Porthtowan (where I should finish tomorrow). The Arc has a 36 hour cut off time. It’s taken me five days of running to cover the same section. Once again, I’ve found myself in awe at the pace that some runners can cover this unforgiving terrain.

I just about made it back to Carbis Bay in time for a swim.
