Run Britain Day 156: Nairn to Roseisle

This morning I ran with Miriam and Ashleigh, who are training for the Copenhagen marathon, which is the same weekend as I finish Run Britain. Comparing those two timelines doesn’t seem quite right - Copenhagen feels like it’s just around the corner, I still feel like I have quite a long way to go.

I love running with people because they can navigate (and Miriam and Ashleigh did a wonderful job at guiding me through the beautiful forest and roads into Findhorn). But mainly because running is a great way to get to know people and chatting with new friends on the coast path has been one of the best bits of the project so far.

Especially when they have stories like Miriam. We were talking about sisters’ getting married (the countdown to Beth’s wedding really feels like it is now on) and she told me that her second son was born on her sister's wedding day. I assumed that meant she hadn’t been able to make the wedding, but when I said that was a shame, she looked at me surprised, “oh I went.”

Miriam and her husband drove from near Inverness to Buckinghamshire the day before her son was due, to be at the wedding. When, after the ceremony, she started getting contractions, she let her husband know it was probably best for him not to have another glass of wine. And by the time the dancing kicked off, she decided it was time to check into the local hospital, where her son was born a couple of hours later. She was then able to go back to join the wedding party and all her family the next morning.

I really enjoyed being entertained by Miriam and Ashleigh for a morning and I even enjoyed an afternoon walking into Roseisle (after picking up a slight niggle in my foot) along a beautiful beach and another forest. The incredibly well stocked food truck at our parking spot didn’t hurt matters either.
