Run Britain Day 138: From Lochinver to Kylestrome

Our parking spot on the banks of Loch Inver was as perfect as could be for our first night in the new van. A few steps from the calm waters edge, with a great view over the water and the hills beyond.

It was a magical spot to wake up in. But unfortunately we hadn’t got the heating in the campervan quite right and I’d had quite a disturbed nights sleep.

The run, continuing north around the narrow, windy roads is getting tougher because it is so hilly. Still not Cornwall hilly, but the elevation has certainly stepped up again.

But what is blowing my mind about these remote roads, is that people live on them. We’re more than an hour from the nearest big shop out here and petrol stations are the type that have just one pump (although the fuel lorry driver, who past me twice today seems very accomplished at navigating these crazy roads).

There are tiny little village shops. One of which was selling salmon pate and hummus crisps, which made Lottie very happy. Those are going to be our treat on a difficult day.
