Run Britain Day 120 and 121: To Kingairloch
I am on the Ardnamurchan peninsula, ready to head out to the most westerly point on mainland Britain. This is a compass point that I didn’t know existed before I started planning Run Britain but, coincidentally, it’s the peninsula that Heather grew up on.
To get to Ardnamurchan, you can either drive around the loch at Fort William or take the Corran Ferry across Loch Linnhe. Either option feels like it’s a long way.
On the other side of the ferry is the Caledonia Way, which is the nicest cycle way I have run on so far. It’s also completely empty, which may be something to do with the fact that it is February and it’s freezing.
Since crossing over on the ferry I have been running along pretty much the same one road. It’s the road that Heather and her friend Becca (who still lives here to run the Kingairloch Estate) drove along to get to primary school. A school that had only 15 people.
It’s an incredibly remote and wonderfully beautiful place.
