Run Britain Day 116: Who knows where

Setting off from the campsite this morning, I was relieved to get off the A-road and onto the quite single track lanes leading to who knows where.

That relief didn’t last long.

Running in the remotest of spots relies on support, or a good level of preparedness. I was expecting Heather and the van to come and meet me for lunch so I only had very limited supplies with me. A flapjack, half a packet of sweets, 500ml of water, no portable charger.

The van didn’t make it. A few miles down the road it decided that it didn’t want to make the journey on the single track roads around the loch and so it just stopped. Heather was left in a state of uncertainty and panic. I started rationing my sweets.

Today has definitely not been an ideal one. Both my watch and tracker ran out of battery which means the 50km covered today have been very poorly tracked. I also had to walk up the longest hill yet, into a headwind, which was hard work.

I haven’t loved day 116, but kind locals have helped us fix the van. They also brought me soup to keep me going while I was in the back of beyond. And I think we’re now back on track.
