Run Britain day 113-115: Mull of Kintyre
We’ve got into the swing of things.
My morning alarm goes off at 6:45, which is my cue to get my porridge on, take my supplements and make a cup of tea. Everything is laid out the night before so I can get going without really thinking about it.
Heather takes slightly longer to get out of the campervan comfort. That works well though, because even though it’s a big van, it’s best not to have two people moving around at the same time.
With this system in place, I can start running at 8am which is perfect timing. I can also leave Heather to deal with the sorting. It is such a relief not to be having to do any packing up.
My first morning stop is normally at about 10:30. I can jump into the van for 20 minutes, sit with my feet up and take on some fuel. Soreen malt loaf, nuts and lucozade are my current mid-morning stacks of choice. We also currently have the morning luxury of watching the winter Olympics (when signal allows streaming).
It’s then, back out into the cold and on with the day. Until lunchtime, which is currently soup, bread, fruit, coke, tea, biscuits and more winter Olympics.
Heather has also been cycling or running out to meet me before these rest stops, which is great. Not only because it brings some distraction from the mundane, but also because she can tell me exactly how far I have to go until the stopping point.
A lot of people thought I was crazy to run the Mull of Kintyre. It is such a long peninsula and it has taken three days to run around. But I am so glad I have done it. The scenery has been stunning. And it makes for a good section of my map.
