Run Britain Day 107: Rest day in Glasgow
7am - Waking up with no alarm is such a treat. I have only done that a handful of times in the last 107 days. I stayed in bed for an hour after I woke up, catching up with some writing and enjoying a non-time-constrained cup of tea.
8-9am - Down to the buffet breakfast in the hotel. The signs in the lift said the hotel was busy and I should try and not take too long with my breakfast so the table could be used by someone else. I decided that didn’t apply to me because I needed a full hour to eat everything.
9am-10:30am - Headed to the gym for a really good stretch. It’s nice to be able to stretch properly in lots of space and with all the equipment I needed. I then used the sauna and the pool, both of which I had to myself.
11am-1pm - I headed straight into the centre of Glasgow (about a 5 minute walk from the hotel) to pick up some final essentials for my time in the highlands. Blacks had a 60% sale on which made me happy. And Uniqlo has an automatic scanning system at the checkouts, which made me even happier. I was so impressed with the Japanese ingenuity (I have since learnt this checkout system is not unique to Uniqlo) that I fancied sushi, so I headed to Marks & Spencer, where they had a dedicated sushi bar.
1pm-3pm - Lunch back at the hotel watching House of Games and pretending to catch up with my diary (I think I managed three entries from the 20 or so missing ones).
3:30-4:30pm - Massage. The masseur spent quite a weird amount of time on my back, given that I told her that I was running around Britain and could do with the main focus being on my legs. She also used about 50 minutes of the hour that I paid for. But it was still nice and relaxing.
5-6:30pm - Bath. Yes, I can have a 1.5hr bath. The key is to keep topping up the hot water.
6:30-9pm - I enjoyed my sushi while watching Wicked 2 (finally) in bed.
It’s been an absolutely perfect day off and I am feeling ready for whatever the next section of Scotland brings.
