Run Britain Day 74: Magic from Aberdovey to Llanbedr

Has today been my favourite day of running?

A few years ago, I was lucky to live in Vancouver and the thing I miss most about the city is its views. From the southern part of Vancouver, the coastal mountains to the north seem to rise up from behind the sea. It’s an amazing view.

This morning, I set off from the beautiful beach at Aberdovey before sunrise (I skipped out the estuary). And by the middle of the morning, the peaks of Snowdonia had appeared across the bay.

Even a decent chunk of non-pavement road running couldn’t dampen my mood with the mountains to motivate me. Nor could the relatively pricey lunch in the relatively chilly cafe in Barmouth (which is lovely and actually lunch was too).

I had more stunning beaches almost all to myself in the afternoon. I enjoyed a fantastic audiobook (thank you Greg James) and arrived in Llanbedr after a 47km day absolutely buzzing.

Things got better in the evening when my room above the wonderful Victoria Inn had a bath and the menu was so good, I had to order two separate meals. And it was quiz night on the tv, which is always great.

So yes, I think day 74 may have been my favourite so far.
