Run Britain Day 141: From Durness to Tongue
Uncle Tom walked his longest day from Tongue to Durness when he did his walk. His route was slightly different to mine because he didn’t need to stick to the road, but I did want to emulate that (besides, 30 mile days is what I need to be aiming for if I want to make it to the 200 marathon target).
And so I ran all 30 of the miles, even though the first 10 miles were run into a horrible headwind.
At the Tongue Causeway, we met David, an army veteran who is climbing all of Scotland’s monroes. He suggested that I do the same and didn’t seem that phased by the fact that I am currently running the coastline. Although he did use his drone to record a magnificent video of me running across the causeway.
Tongue is not particularly campervan friendly at this time of year, with its closed campsites and many aggressive ‘no parking’ signs. So we pulled into a lay-by next to a graveyard and hoped we’d be undisturbed.
